Reasons for Biopsies
A head and neck exam is completed at all examination appointments. During the examination any areas that look abnormal may be an indication for a biopsy. A biopsy is removal of the full or partial portion of the abnormal tissue which is sent for microscopic review by an Oral Pathologist. While a very small portion of biopsies are cancerous or pre-cancerous, many biopsies reveal important diagnosis that may require further treatment.
