Dental implants offer a long term solution for tooth loss. At Pure Perio we offer comprehensive surgical implant services including single unit implants, implant-supported bridges, and multi unit implant supported dentures. These treatments offer versatile and durable options to restore oral health and enhance smiles.
Dental implants act as replacement tooth roots fused to the jawbone. A single implant can replace one missing tooth. For multiple missing teeth, several implants may be placed to support tooth prosthetics like bridges, partial dentures, or full dentures.
The implant itself is a small post, made of biocompatible titanium or ceramic, that is surgically implanted into the jawbone. It acts like a screw fusing into wood.
During a 2-4 month healing period, the implant undergoes osseointegration, which is the fusing of bone to the implant's surface.
This creates a firm, stable foundation for your restoration (tooth crown).
Preserve facial structure by preventing bone loss in the jaw
Long-lasting when properly cared for, implants can last for decades
Comfortable and secure, implants do not require messy adhesives
Natural appearance, shape, and feel that blends seamlessly with surrounding teeth
When considering dental implants, the most important factor is having sufficient bone height and density to provide the implant with a stable foundation. Those with healthy bone and gums are ideal candidates.
Certain medical conditions like diabetes or autoimmune diseases can potentially interfere with osseointegration between the implant and jawbone. Some medications and heavy smoking also reduce success rates.
Adults of any age may be suitable if their oral health allows implant integration. However, age itself does not determine candidacy.
In the past, those with extreme bone loss from gum disease or extractions were told implants were not possible. But modern techniques like bone grafting, sinus lifts, and ridge augmentation can successfully rebuild lost bone volume at planned implant sites.
Even if you were initially discouraged from implants, schedule a new consultation. Advancements now provide tooth replacement with natural aesthetics, comfort, and longevity to more patients. As long as you commit to proper oral hygiene, dental implants can greatly improve your smile.
A comprehensive examination will be performed to assess your oral health. Diagnostic x-rays, a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scan, and a 3D digital surface scan will be taken to assess the area and precisely plan implant positioning. A thorough view of your bone, soft tissue, sinuses, and nerve paths.
Once the data acquisition is complete, the diagnostic radiographic images are digitally merged with the 3D surface scans. Using state of the art computer software, Dr. Ratliff plans the exact placement of your implant, accurate to one one-hundredth of a millimeter. Once the implant location is set, a surgical guide is designed. The guide will be retained by surrounding teeth or bone to the implant site, and will serve as a drilling jig for Dr. Ratliff’s instruments ensuring a perfect implant placement.
The surgical guide design is sent to our in-office 3D printer, which gets to work layer by layer constructing the physical guide using class I biocompatible resin. After the surgical guide is printed, it is placed in an ultrasonic bath of isopropyl alcohol that removes any uncured resin. Following the bath, the guide is cured in an oven using ultraviolet light and heat. This stiffens and strengthens the surgical guide. Once the curing process is complete, metal sleeves are placed in the guides implant sites. This ensures that the guide holds up to Dr. Ratliff’s instruments during the placement. The completed surgical guide is finally sterilized in the autoclave. The now sterile surgical guide is ready for surgery. Every aspect of the implant process is completed in-office.
A small incision is made in the gums to expose the underlying jawbone. A hole is then drilled through the custom surgical guide into the bone at the precise planned site. The dental implant itself, a small screw-like titanium or ceramic post, is inserted into the bone opening. The gums are then sutured closed over the implant site.
For your comfort, local anesthesia is used to numb the area during the implant surgery. Sedation can also be provided to help patients relax throughout the procedure.
A crucial 2-4 month healing period follows implant placement to allow osseointegration, which is the fusing of bone to the implant's surface. This provides a firm foundation for the implant. Follow all provided instructions carefully during your healing period.
A simple torque test confirms the implant has successfully integrated with the jawbone. Torque testing ensures your implant is ready for the final tooth restoration.
Once healed and torque tested, your implant is ready for the prosthetic tooth restoration. This may involve a crown, bridge, partial or full denture. At this point, you will be referred back to your dentist for final restoration fabrication and placement.
Follow the instructions for post-operative care.

For patients requiring replacement of the entire upper, lower, or both dental arches, we offer sophisticated All-on-X implant solutions. All-on-X technology efficiently replaces a full arch of missing teeth utilizing only four to six securely anchored dental implants. These strategically placed implants enable immediate attachment of a complete arch of new, non-removable replacement teeth. In most cases, bone grafting procedures are not needed. With a full arch of strong, new implant teeth, you can instantly smile, speak, and eat with confidence and comfort. We use advanced 3D imaging and implant planning software to virtually map out your custom All-on-X placement and design the blueprint for your new teeth. With All-on-X implant technology, you can efficiently achieve a permanent, non-removable and completely realistic smile.
Well cared for dental implants are a durable and long lasting solution for missing teeth that can last for decades. However, poor oral hygiene can lead to inflammation, infection, and implant diseases.
Peri-implant mucositis causes swelling, redness, and bleeding in the gum tissue and around the implant. It is reversible with treatment. Without intervention, it can advance to peri-implantitis.
Peri-implantitis is bone loss around the implant along with swelling and bleeding. Left untreated, it can cause implant failure and require removal.
We encourage all of our dental implant patients to have a night guard appliance. This will help prevent unnecessary stress on the implant.
Careful brushing and flossing are required to maintain dental implant health.
Smoking reduces the blood supply to the tissues surrounding the implant, making the implant more prone to bone loss.
We encourage all dental implant patients to visit once a year for a full implant check. During this appointment dental imaging, bite check and probing of the implant(s) will take place. We will also check the surrounding tissues to detect signs of inflammation, bleeding, or bone loss.
Perio-implantitis can be treated with the laser using the LAPIP protocol. Learn more here.
Additional treatment can include opening the area, removing diseased tissue, and bone/tissue grafting the area, Early diagnosis will ensure the best treatment outcome.
